Mercado Negro

O chavalo autor deste blog participa numa mostra colectiva de pintura a decorrer no espaço Mercado Negro em Aveiro (para a qual, aliás, já o leitor havia sido convidado). Estou presente com três trabalhos em aguarela:

Novo Inquilino / New Tenant

Esta é a nossa mais recente inquilina e amiga. Encontrei-a atropelada e deixada no meio da autoestrada A7. Recolhi-a com cuidado e dois meses e meio depois do acidente encontra-se quase completamente recuperada. Foi submetida a operações para montar os ossos da bacia e da perna direita traseira e colocar a tripalhada toda no sítio. Está ainda em terapia para recuperar a motricidade da perna direita. Vitória de seu nome.

This is our most recent tenant and friend. I found her after she was ran over by a car and left in the middle of highway A7. I retired her carefully and two and a half months after the accident she's almost fully recovered. She went under surgery to put together the crushed bones of her back right leg and pelvis and put in place all the guts. She´s still in therapy to regain her right leg motricity. Victoria of her name.

Rogo de Comparecimento (i.e., Convite) / Request for Appearance (i.e., Invitation)

No próximo dia 17 (sim, amanhã) ir-se-á realizar uma mostra colectiva de pintura no espaço Mercado Negro em Aveiro, subordinada ao tema "LOVE ME". A inauguração terá início às 21:00 horas, e a mostra estará patente até dia 9. É uma mostra comissariada por Teresa Melo e eu vou participar com três aguarelas. Estão os estimados leitores desde já informados e convidados.

Next 17th (yes, tomorrow) there will be a colective show of paintings in the Mercado Negro space in Aveiro, under the theme "LOVE ME". The inauguration will take place at 21:00 hours, and the showing will remain until the 9th of March. It's a showing comissioned by Teresa Melo and I'll be present with 3 watercolors. The esteemed readers are therefore informed and invited.

Para a Confusão / For The Confusion

Um homem sai apressado do hotel, manhã cedo, ainda a vestir o sobretudo e a segurar a pasta com uma das mãos num jogo de malabarismo digno de um artista circense. Interpela rapidamente o porteiro na entrada do hotel:

- Por favor, depressa, chame-me um táxi!

O porteiro, solícito, acode ao homem:

- O senhor é um táxi.

A man leaves a hotel in a hurry, early in the morning, still dressing his overcoat while holding his briefcase with the other hand in a juggling game worthy of circus artist. He rapidly asks the doorman in the hotel entrance:

- Would you please, quickly, call me a cab!

The doorman, solicitous, helps the man:

- You are a cab, sir.

O que é um bartedouro, mestre? / What's a bailer, master?

Há pouco tempo (ontem) tive um feedback (sim, já ninguém fala português) de um cartoon que desenvolvi para apresentar no site da Rádio Terra Nova. Julgo ser enriquecedor, este feed-back. Parece que o título causa alguma confusão pois não se sabe bem o significado da palavra. As gerações mais novas (como a minha, por exemplo) não conhece a palavra. E as mais antigas, principalmente aquelas pessoas ligadas de alguma forma às fainas da ria, conhecem mas não acedem à internet (pelo que não vêm o meu cartoon, coitados). Impõe-se assim algum tipo de esclarecimento. Vejamos o que diz o Dicionário da Língua Portuguesa da Porto Editora, edição antiga:
 

For the english spoken folks I'm afraid this all question is lost in translation. "Bartedouro" actually means bailer but literally the translation is a bit stuck with the accent or jargon of the portuguese language. What follows is an excerpt of the significance of the word "bartedouro" in a portuguese dictionary.
